Like many great careers, Steve Marando’s began on the floor, learning the craft. Today, he leads it.
Part of the Andrews Meat Industries team since 2017, Steve is now the Head of Production and oversees the operation responsible for preparing thousands of orders each day for customers ranging from pubs and clubs to cruise ships and major stadiums.
“I started trimming beef cheeks after coming across from retail,” Steve recalls. “Pretty early on I asked what it would take to upskill myself and that really started the journey.”
That willingness to learn, combined with strong internal support, opened doors. Steve progressed from general butchery to leadership roles including General Butchery Manager and Production Manager before stepping into his current position. But he’s the first to tell you he didn’t get there on his own.
“From my earliest days, I’ve been fortunate to have mentors who guided and encouraged me,” Steve says. “They helped me navigate the business and shape my career path.”
Former General Manager Jacinta helped shape Steve’s early leadership skills, taking the time to support his development. More recently, working closely with Peter Andrews has given him a better understanding of what it takes to run a successful operation.
As Steve took on more responsibility, Andrews’ focus on continuous improvement helped grow his confidence. Industry conferences, certifications and training, including Train the Trainer, WHS and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, strengthened both his technical knowledge and leadership skills.
One conversation stands out as a turning point for Steve.
“I opened up about struggling with self-belief, feeling like I wasn’t experienced enough for growth,” he says. “The support and training that followed really changed things for me and helped me step up.”
Nearly nine years on, it’s the people and culture that have kept him at Andrews.
“Although Andrews is a corporate business, it still feels like a family business,” Steve says. “Everyone is treated with respect and made to feel valued.”

And Steve’s focused on paying that same support forward. Many of his team members began in entry level roles and Steve actively encourages them to develop new skills and pursue their own progression.
“I’ve come from the bottom and worked my way up,” he says. “I want people here to know that anything is achievable if you’re willing to work for it.”
At Andrews Meat Industries, Steve’s journey is proof that careers aren’t just built, they’re grown.
